Viking Gate Access Control in Long Beach: What to Know First
We’re an independent Viking service provider in Long Beach, and we repair Viking gate access control systems every week, from dead keypads to phone-entry boxes that stopped talking to the gate board. Most Viking access-control repairs are done on the first visit because we carry the common Viking parts in the truck: control boards, keypads, loop detectors, and photo-eye hardware. If you own a Viking system in Long Beach and the gate won’t open from the keypad, the remote, or the phone, call (424) 788-1027 and we’ll give you a written price before any work begins.
This page is for homeowners with Viking-brand gate openers who need the access side fixed: keypads, remotes, phone entry, card readers, intercoms, or the wiring between them and the operator. If you’re not sure whether the problem is the access control or the operator itself, call anyway. We’ll sort it out on the phone before we dispatch.
How Viking Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
- Viking F-1 and F-12 keypads that go dead after a rain event. The F-1 and F-12 are the two Viking keypads we see most in Long Beach, especially on older swing gates in Los Altos and Bixby Knolls. The failure is almost never the keypad electronics. It’s the pigtail connection behind the keypad, which wicks moisture and corrodes the crimp terminals. Viking uses a short factory pigtail, and once the jacket cracks, salt air does the rest. We cut the corroded section, re-terminate with weatherproof connectors, and seal the back of the keypad so it can’t happen again for a decade.
- Viking K-1900 phone entry units that ring but won’t open the gate. The K-1900 series is a solid phone-entry board, but it depends on a clean relay output to the gate operator. When the relay contact wears or a lightning strike takes it out, the unit still rings the house, so the homeowner hears the phone pick up. But the gate never moves. We trace the relay output, confirm the fault at the board with a meter, and replace the relay if it’s socketed. On the older K-1900-3 models with soldered relays, we replace the board with a Viking K-1900-8 and carry over the phone-line configuration.
- Viking loop detectors that false-trigger and hold the gate open. Viking’s plug-in loop detectors are sensitive enough that a cracked sawcut loop in the driveway will read as a phantom vehicle, and the gate will stay open or cycle open at odd hours. This is common near the Colorado Lagoon corridor, where the salt air accelerates the corrosion of loop wires. We test the loop’s resistance and inductance, and if the sawcut loop is failing, we install a new loop or switch to a photo-eye safety configuration, depending on your setup.
- Viking EM-1 and EM-2 entry systems with intermittent handset volume faults. The Viking EM series is intended for apartment and light commercial entry, but we see them on Long Beach estates where the gate is far enough from the house that a wired handset makes more sense than a phone line. The weak point is the handset cable, which gets pinched in the pedestal. We inspect the cable run, repair or replace the damaged section, and photograph the repair before we close up.
- Viking remote receivers that lose programming after a power flicker. The Viking R series receivers hold their programming in non-volatile memory, but we’ve seen units whose memory chip fails after years of heat cycling in a Long Beach pedestal that faces the afternoon sun. The symptom is that remotes work for a few days after reprogramming, then drop out. Replacing the receiver takes about 45 minutes, and we program every remote on the property to the new unit before we leave.
Our Viking Gate Access Control Process

- 1
Call (424) 788-1027. A live person answers. We ask which Viking model you have and what the gate is doing. If you don’t know the model, we’ll walk you through finding the label on the operator or the keypad.
- 2
We dispatch a named technician. You get the tech’s name and photo before arrival. The tech arrives with common Viking parts already on the truck.
- 3
The diagnostic is written, not verbal. The tech identifies the fault, shows you what was found, and writes down the fix before any work begins. You approve the price in writing first. No surprise invoice, ever. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1.
- 4
Parts decision: OEM or quality aftermarket. If we have a Viking OEM part, we present it. If we recommend an aftermarket equivalent for a discontinued Viking part, we tell you exactly why and what the trade-off is. No mystery parts.
- 5
The repair is tested in front of you. Keypad code in, gate opens. Phone entry rings, gate opens. Remote works from the street. We check the safety edges and photo-eyes before we close the job.
- 6
You get a documented photo record. Every adjustment, every new wire termination, every replaced board is photographed and left with you. Haven Standard Clause 4.
Before
AfterWhat Viking Gate Access Control Costs in Long Beach
Here’s what you can expect to pay for common Viking access-control repairs in Long Beach. These are written-price ranges, not estimates that balloon after we start.
- Viking F-1 or F-12 keypad replacement: $245-$395 including programming.
- Viking K-1900 phone entry board replacement: $420-$680 depending on the model series.
- Viking receiver replacement with remote programming: $225-$375.
- Loop detector replacement: $180-$290 if the loop wiring is intact.
- Full access-control retrofit (keypad plus phone entry plus remotes, new wiring): $1,200-$2,800 depending on run length and pedestal condition.
What moves the price: the age of the existing Viking hardware, whether the wiring is salvageable, and whether the job is a straight swap or a re-wire. We quote you a flat number in writing before any tool comes out. Call (424) 788-1027 and we’ll get you the number.
Why Long Beach Homeowners Call Vance Gate Repair Long Beach for Viking Work

Most gate companies in Long Beach see a Viking system and start talking about replacement. We see a Viking system and open the diagnostic manual. Adrian Vance spent years doing commercial access-control work before he started this company, and Viking was one of the first brands he learned board-level repair on. We know the quirks of Viking wiring, the relay failures, the programming menus, and the parts that are discontinued and what to use instead.
And if the problem turns out to be the operator, not the access control, we don’t walk away. We service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, and Viking operators alike. One company, one truck, whatever brand you have. Every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right, no argument, no fee.
FAQs
We’re an independent Viking service provider, not a Viking authorized dealer, so we don’t do factory warranty repairs. If your Viking system is under warranty, we’ll tell you straight before you spend a dollar, so you can decide whether to go back to the installing dealer. If you’d rather have us repair it anyway, we price it flat and in writing.
Some Viking parts are harder than others. Keypads, receivers, and most phone-entry boards are easy for us to source quickly. Some older Viking EM-series boards and discontinued loop detectors take a day or two from our distributor. We carry the common parts on the truck, so most Long Beach Viking jobs are finished same-day. For the odd parts, we tell you the lead time before we order.
Sometimes. If the keypad is dead because of a corroded pigtail behind the faceplate, we can often re-terminate and save the keypad. If the circuit board inside is water-damaged or the buttons are physically worn, replacement is cheaper and more reliable. Either way, you get a written diagnosis before we do anything.
For an open or stuck gate, we’re typically on-site the same day. For access-control problems that don’t leave the gate physically open, we schedule at your convenience, usually within one to two days. Either way, a live person answers the phone 24/7. Call (424) 788-1027 and we’ll get you on the schedule.
Yes. Every Viking job leaves a photo record of what was found, what was adjusted, and what was installed. You get a written part number, a written price, and the photos. That’s Haven Standard Clause 4, and it’s on every job we do in Long Beach, no exceptions.
