• The gate sags at the hinge side and scrapes the ground. The hinge weld or the hinge bracket itself is failing, which puts the entire gate load on the operator arm. Mighty Mule arms are not designed to carry gate weight; they only move it.
• The post bracket rocks when the arm pushes or pulls. The factory bolts have elongated the holes or the bracket itself has cracked at a bend point. On Long Beach properties near the water, we see this accelerated by salt corrosion thinning the metal.
• A visible crack runs from a weld bead across the gate frame. The crack usually starts at a factory weld adjacent to a hinge. Once it propagates into the frame tube, the gate begins to flex and the operator strains harder on every cycle.
• The gate slams at the end of travel rather than stopping smoothly. A broken or bent stop tab lets the arm over-travel, and that repeated over-travel is what cracks brackets and fractures welds in the first place. This is the most common root cause we document in Long Beach, and we reposition and re-weld the stop as part of the repair.
• The arm separates from the gate bracket at full open or full close. The clevis pin has worn through the bracket hole or the weld at the gate plate has failed. If this happens, the gate is unsecured; call us before the arm drags the gate into the driveway.

DIY or Call Us?

On the welding and fabrication side, there is no safe DIY path for most Long Beach homeowners.
