FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

If your FAAC gate operator has a cracked hinge, a snapped swing-arm bracket, or a tower mount that’s pulling away from the column, welding and fabrication work in Long Beach typically runs $280 to $650 installed, depending on where the failure is and whether the gate leaf needs to be un-hung to fix it properly. We carry FAAC-compatible weld-in brackets, pivot plates, and tower reinforcement kits on the truck for same-day repair in most cases. The way owners usually find this problem: the gate starts dragging on the traveler wheel, or a hinge starts groaning, or one morning the gate simply won’t close and the operator is pushing against steel that’s no longer where it used to be.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

Most of the welding and fabrication work we do on FAAC systems in Long Beach involves the 400 Series hydraulic operators (402, 412, 415, 422) and the swing-arm 390 and 770 lines, though we also reinforce the post for C720 and S418 slide-gate applications. The 400 Series mounts through a steel plate into the gate column or a fabricated post, and that’s where the metallurgy matters: FAAC ships metric hardware, so a weld-on replacement plate must be drilled for M10 or M12 fasteners, not a 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch SAE bolt. If someone previously “made it work” with whatever they had in the truck, we typically find an elongated bolt hole and a plate that’s been flexing under load since day one.

When we identify the correct part, we go by the operator’s serial plate, which lists the model and sometimes the revision number, then measure center-to-center distance on the mounting holes. FAAC has revised the mounting footprint on some swing-arm models over the years, and a bracket for an older 400 series will not line up on a 390 unless you slot the holes, which we won’t do. That’s a safety failure waiting to happen. For OEM versus aftermarket: FAAC’s factory brackets are decent mild steel with a powder-coat finish, and quality aftermarket weld plates fabricated locally in stainless are genuinely better for Long Beach’s coastal air. We keep both on hand and recommend based on where your gate lives, not on margin.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags at the hinge side and drags the wheel hard. The weld or the hinge plate is starting to pull away from the column. You’ll see rust staining at the weld joint and a visible gap that opens and closes as the gate travels.
  • The operator moves but the gate hesitates or stutters mid-travel. A broken weld on the swing-arm bracket lets the arm flex under load, so the hydraulics are fighting movement instead of controlling it. The flex point eventually becomes a snap point.
  • You hear a metallic pop followed by the gate slamming or swinging free. That’s the sound of a weld failing completely. The gate leaf is now unsupported at that point, and as security failures go, this is the one you fix before nightfall.
  • Fresh rust streaks appear at the base of a gate post, especially on the hinge side. Long Beach salt air gets into the weld seam and works it from inside. A seam that looked fine in June can be structural junk by January if it was never sealed after welding.
  • The FAAC operator shows a torque fault but the gate is not bound anywhere visible. The mounting plate may have shifted just enough to throw off the operator’s travel calibration. We see this on properties near the Colorado Lagoon corridor, where soil movement plus salt corrosion compounds the problem.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For FAAC-specific welding and fabrication in Long Beach, here’s what our written estimates typically show:

  • Weld-in hinge plate replacement (single): $280 to $380 installed, including un-hanging the gate, grinding the old weld, welding the new plate, and re-hanging.
  • Swing-arm bracket weld repair or replacement: $180 to $320, depending on whether we can repair in place or need to remove the operator.
  • Full tower or post reinforcement (400 Series mount): $450 to $650, including fabricated steel gussets, weld-out, grind, prime, and paint-match.
  • Stainless 316 custom bracket fabrication (Long Beach coastal homes): $220 to $400 per bracket, fabricated in-place or measured and returned for install.

The price you get in writing is the price you pay, before we touch anything. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1. Labor includes the grind-down, weld-out, and paint or corrosion treatment on the repair area. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every weld we put down: if it cracks, shifts, or fails within one full year, we fix it at no additional charge. Every job leaves with a photo record of what we found, what we welded, and what the finished joint looks like, filed in the job record and left with you.

Honest split: you can safely inspect the weld joints. Look for visible cracking at the seam, rust that’s flaking rather than staining, and any gap between the plate and the post when the gate is mid-travel. You can clean corrosion and note what you see. What you should not do is run a grinder and a welder on a gate that’s under tension from a hydraulic operator. A gate leaf that’s partially failed can shift suddenly when you remove the old bracket, and a 400-pound swing gate dropping off its hinges is not a lesson you want to learn firsthand.

Welding on an FAAC operator bracket while the part is still bolted to the machine can also fry the control board: current pathing through the arm and into the electronics is a real thing and we’ve replaced boards because of it. If the weld has failed, the part needs to come off or have the operator removed first, and that’s where calling helps.
